Seidl's design is unique in its ability to offer a range of Italian coffee culture experiences, from espresso to cappuccino or latte, all in a compact footprint. The machine is characterized by a large, seamless shell with a three-dimensional Lavazza logo on the side. Metal accents highlight the main touch points like the lever, drip grid, and user interface. The Lavazza in Black system also introduces peel-able coffee pods for easier recycling.
Despite its compact size, the Lavazza Elogy Milk is a powerhouse of innovation. Significant effort went into reducing the machine's noise level and energy consumption. The touch-sensitive user interface arranges the main selections into two groups: one for coffee and one for milk-based beverages. Drinks can be personalized with boost functions, and required service is indicated in the center.
The machine comes with a patented milk frothing system and a dedicated glass mug. The cup rest can be adjusted, placing smaller cups closer to the spout to reduce splashes and benefit coffee temperature and crema. The large water tank is easily accessible, and removable parts are dishwasher safe, making maintenance a breeze.
The Lavazza Elogy Milk was designed in Turin, Italy, and the complete product development process took about 20 months. The design process involved conceptual and formal research, 3D modeling, physical mock-ups, and prototyping. One of the significant challenges was developing a shared common platform for the different versions of the machine.
The Lavazza Elogy Milk's design excellence has been recognized with the prestigious Platinum A' Home Appliances Design Award in 2021. This award recognizes world-class, exceptional, and highly innovative designs that showcase unmatched professionalism, genius, and contribute to societal wellbeing. It is a testament to the defining aesthetics of an era, advancing the boundaries of art, science, design, and technology, and making the world a better place.
